The Briggsville Dam removal is pushing forward and is now open for bids! See the Briggsville-Bid and the Briggsville Dam pages (left sidebar under “Ongoing Projects”) for more information and links to the Final Specifications and Bid Package Planset.

Read all about it! The Hoosic River Voice, HooRWA’s newsletter for this summer is now available. See the left sidebar for the link to the pdf file.

Kelly Nolan’s most recent monitoring report is now available for downloading. Follow the link to Monitoring/Results.

We’ve posted a link to some photos from one of HooRWA’s winter excursions on a new Watershed Excursions page. See left sidebar.

The spring newsletter is now available for downloading. Check the left sidebar for “Spring 2010″.

We now have four river and stream improvement projects within the watershed that have been granted Priority Status by the Massachusetts Dept. of Fish and Game’s Division of Ecological Restoration (Riverways). Priority status allows the folks in the division to devote additional resources to the project. (See their webpage for complete details.) The Hoosic River Revival, currently developing plans for flood chute modifications in North Adams, was the most recently chosen. Earlier this fall, the Thunder Brook dam and stream restoration project in Cheshire was selected. And the Briggsville Dam removal project in Clarksburg and the Hoxie Brook day-lighting project in Adams are Priority Projects from past years.

There is a new returnable bottle & can Redemption Center in North Adams, where you can redeem your bottles and cans (run by humans, so no machine to malfunction) and get cash or donate the proceeds to local charities, run by B-Fair, a North Adams non profit as a money maker for them as well as the local charities. HooRWA is on their list so you can donate to HooRWA.

The address is 1000 Massachusetts Ave, at the corner of Mass Ave and Protection Ave. And the hours are
Tues – Friday 9 Am – 3 PM
Saturday 9 Am – 2 PM

Check it out and tell your friends!

This is a guide to the paddling experience that can be had on the Hoosic River and its larger tributaries. Depending on water level, the Hoosic presents exciting and scenic canoeing, kayaking or rafting. Because the Hoosic is a fast-draining system, best boating is likely to be in the spring or during the autumn rainy season, but any significant rainfall will have an effect on water levels.
