Kelly Nolan’s Hoosic River Report Card for 2011 is now available, in report card format at www.rwaa.us/WAA_DOC/HooRWA_2011.pdf. The report, in a slightly different format easier for on screen viewing, is available from our website by visiting the Monitoring/Results page and downloading from there.

HooRWA seeks artists to participate in Riverworks 2012, May 26 at Cole Field in Williamstown. For examples of the kinds of works produced at past events, please go to the following site by clicking here.

HooRWA’s winter 2012 newsletter is now available for downloading from this website. Find the link in the “Newsletter” box on the left side of this page.

HooRWA’s 21th annual Riverfest is just a few weeks away. (See Upcoming Events for more information.) Below is a picture of one of the artists’ creations that posed on the banks of the Hoosic last year. Titled “Man waiting” and created by Matthew Perry of Vermont Arts Exchange. Please make plans to join us this year.

Kelly Nolan’s most recent monitoring report is now available for downloading. Follow the link to Monitoring/Results.

We now have four river and stream improvement projects within the watershed that have been granted Priority Status by the Massachusetts Dept. of Fish and Game’s Division of Ecological Restoration (Riverways). Priority status allows the folks in the division to devote additional resources to the project. (See their webpage for complete details.) The Hoosic River Revival, currently developing plans for flood chute modifications in North Adams, was the most recently chosen. Earlier this fall, the Thunder Brook dam and stream restoration project in Cheshire was selected. And the Briggsville Dam removal project in Clarksburg and the Hoxie Brook day-lighting project in Adams are Priority Projects from past years.

There is a new returnable bottle & can Redemption Center in North Adams, where you can redeem your bottles and cans (run by humans, so no machine to malfunction) and get cash or donate the proceeds to local charities, run by B-Fair, a North Adams non profit as a money maker for them as well as the local charities. HooRWA is on their list so you can donate to HooRWA.

The address is 1000 Massachusetts Ave, at the corner of Mass Ave and Protection Ave. And the hours are
Tuesday – Friday 10 Am – 3 PM
Saturday 9 Am – 2 PM

Check it out and tell your friends!

This is a guide to the paddling experience that can be had on the Hoosic River and its larger tributaries. Depending on water level, the Hoosic presents exciting and scenic canoeing, kayaking or rafting. Because the Hoosic is a fast-draining system, best boating is likely to be in the spring or during the autumn rainy season, but any significant rainfall will have an effect on water levels.
