UPDATE: RiverFest Canceled due to rain

After painful deliberation the organizational reps decided we needed to cancel due to the rain predictions for tomorrow.  Our concerns included: rain, cool temps, higher water, low water visibility, harder time fishing, and low participation due to weather prediction.

Join the Hoosic River Watershed Association, Hoosic River Revival, and Trout Unlimited Taconic Chapter on Saturday, May 31, 11am-2pm for RiverFest! This year Historic Beaver Mill, right along Route 8 in North Adams, will be hosting RiverFest.

Celebrate and get to know the species who live in the River. Attend a workshop on fly tying, fly casting, and aquatic macroinvertebrates. Participate in a River-inspired Poetry Share (bring your poems) and a sing along. See demos on water quality monitoring. Bring a picnic blanket or chair and sit for a spell along the River. Walk across the street and up the road to visit Natural Bridge State Park. Remember your water bottle.

Also, Kalina Flood, MassWildlife Western District technician, will join us so that participants can learn to fish without a license under her instruction/supervision.

This event is free and open to the public. Many thanks to Barbara and Eric Rudd Art Foundation and Historic Beaver Mill for hosting this event.

We will have:

  • booths from local river conservation organizations
  • fly fishing in the river
  • trash pickup time
  • fly tying booth
  • learning about bugs that live in the river with local educators
  • face painting
