Hoosic River Watershed Association

History

HooRWA was founded in 1986 as a private, non-profit 501(c)3 organization. Over the years, we’ve had remarkable achievements, thanks to dedicated volunteers and riparian restoration projects. We were instrumental in establishing the Mahican-Mohawk trail. We’ve conducted stream assessments and worked on the Ashtuwillticook Trail, two boat launch sites in Massachusetts, and a linear park in Pownal, VT. We’ve promoted awareness and appreciation for the river with hikes, lectures, workshops, river cleanups, festivals, and conferences, and implemented environmental education programs in many schools. Our annual rafting program provides free raft rides to hundreds of people in April and May. HooRWA also has a long-standing water quality monitoring program.

Paddling between North Adams and Pownal is usuallly safest when the Williamstown gauge reads 200cfs - 700cfs.
